Phase detection auto-focus CMOS image sensors support 4K

Backside illumination (BSI) CMOS image sensors from Toshiba are equipped with Phase Detection Auto-Focus (PDAF). PDAF locks in focus at speeds much faster than the auto-focus systems currently used in smartphones and tablets. The 8Mpixel T4KA3-121, the 16Mpixel T4KC3-121, the 13Mpixel T4KB3-121 and the 20Mpixel T4KA7-121 have image brightness boosted by up to a factor of four, with the company’s Bright Mode technology. The sensors also support high dynamic range to capture natural images of scenes, with a high contrast ratio to prevent over- and underexposed images.

The T4KA3-121 achieves output speeds of up to 30frame/s at full 8MP-resolution – with power consumption figures of 140mW or less. Full-HD outputs are supported at frame rates of up to 60frame/s, and HD outputs are supported at 120frame/s in normal mode and 240frame/s in Bright Mode.

The T4KB3-121 and T4KC3-121 achieve output speeds of up to 30frame/s at 4K2K resolutions, full-HD at frame rates of up to 60frame/s, and HD outputs at 120frame/s.

The T4KA7-121 achieves output speeds of up to 22frame/s at 20Mpixel resolution, 24frame/s at 18.8Mpixel and 28frame/s at 16.3Mpixel, with a power consumption of 440mW.
